ADR 30/01 Smoke Emission Control for Diesel Vehicles This new ADR prescribes the smoke emission requirements for all diesel fuelled vehicles in order to reduce air pollution. It adopts the technical requirements of UN ECE Regulation 24/03 and allows US 94 smoke standards as an alternative. It will apply to new models from 1 January 2002 and all models from 2003. ADR 79/00 Emission Control for Light Vehicles This new ADR implements the "Euro 2" exhaust and evaporative emissions standards for light vehicles (less than 3.5 tonnes GVM) in order to reduce air pollution. It adopts the technical requirements of UN ECE Regulation 83/04. For vehicles operating on diesel fuel, the rule will apply to new models from 1 January 2002 and all models from 2003. For vehicles operating on petrol, liquefied petroleum gas or natural gas, the rule will apply to new models from 2003 and all vehicles from 2004. ADR 79/01 Emission Control for Light Vehicles This new ADR implements the "Euro 3" and "Euro 4" exhaust and evaporative emissions standards for light vehicles (less than 3.5 tonnes GVM) in order to reduce air pollution. It adopts the technical requirements of European Council Directive 98/69/EC. Directive 98/69/EC embodies the "Euro 3" and "Euro 4" requirements for light duty petrol and diesel vehicles, however the ADR will only mandate the "Euro 3" (pre 2005) provisions of 98/69/EC for petrol vehicles, but will allow petrol vehicles optional compliance with "Euro 4" standards. For vehicles operating on diesel fuel, the rule will apply the "Euro 4" limits to new models from 1 January 2006 and all models from 2007. For vehicles operating on petrol, liquefied petroleum gas or natural gas, the rule will apply the "Euro 3" limits to new models from 2005 and all vehicles from 2006. ADR 80/00 Emission Control for Heavy Vehicles This new ADR implements the "Euro 3"exhaust emissions standards for heavy vehicles (greater than 3.5 tonnes GVM) in order to reduce air pollution. It adopts the technical requirements of the proposed European Council Directive [Common Position (EC) No 35/1999 of 22 April 1999] amending European Council Directive 88/77/EEC, which was endorsed by the European Parliament on 16 November 1999 and allows US 98 standards as alternative. It adopts the US 96 standards for heavy duty petrol engines. For vehicles operating on diesel, liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas, the rule will apply "Euro 3" limits to new models from 2002 and all vehicles from 2003, with the US 1998 standards being accepted as an alternative. For vehicles operating on petrol the rule will apply the US 1996 standards to new models from 2003 and all vehicles from 2004.
